Fishing :
The ranch's fishing season runs from late May to mid-September. Optimum stream flow usually starts in late June or early July. Most fish average 1-2 pounds, but annually numerous 3-8 pound fish are caught. For the avid angler, the lakes provide unequaled opportunities.

For the stream fishing enthusiast, some 30 miles of small to medium sized streams traverse Vermejo.

Managed elk hunting at Vermejo goes back to 1910 when elk were first reintroduced into New Mexico.Hunter success has been over 90% for years, and bulls scoring above 300 B & C points is now almost the rule for hunters. Eight fully guided, all-inclusive hunts are hosted on the ranch annually.
Lodging:
Guests are lodged in one of the six early 1900's cottages adjacent to the main lodge. The cottages are comfortably appointed with double occupancy rooms and private baths. Also at headquarters is Casa Grande, one of the original residences of the Bartlett era, and now the private home of Ted Turner. It is available for a very limited number of guests desiring the charm and elegance of yesteryear. A smaller high country lodge, Costilla, is located at 10,000, an hour's drive from headquarters. Costilla is a log structure featuring six double occupancy rooms. A full staff provides excellent meals and service for those groups wishing an intimate setting. All visitors are assured plenty of elbow room as the ranch accommodates no more than 75 guests at one time.
Food/Dining:
As the sun goes down and the day's exertions demand rest and a chance to unwind, guests return from the far reaches of the ranch and the friendly Vermejo staff prepares to pamper. A toast with friends in the lounge, an elegant meal from the dining rooms varied menu, a chance to plan the next day's activities more reasons why guests long remember every day spent at Vermejo.
