All of Elktrout's waters are close, between 10-15 minutes by car. These waters are generally private and are fished by wading, not a drift boat. Novices and experts alike will find water suitable to their abilities here.
Waters:
Colorado River: Elktrout owns easy-wading private water here. Rainbows and browns average 18". At the end of June and into July there is a salmon fly hatch. BWO hatches can occur on cloudy days from June until the end of the season. August has excellent terrestrial actionants, beetles, and hoppers. There is also a trico hatch. Often, dry fly fishing is possible throughout the day due to the diversity of insects present here.
Blue River: Elktrout owns three miles of private water on this tailwater fishery. Cutthroat, cuttbows, rainbows, and browns are all present here and grow quite large, up to 28. There are several hatches of caddis and mayflies from June on. This river offers the special opportunity of catching very large trout on dries.
Troublesome Creek: This is a small, shallow stream with undercut banks holding browns and rainbows up to 20 that rewards and satisfies anglers making accurate and stealthy presentations. The upper section is willow-lined and the lower section runs through pastureland where terrestrial fishing can be excellent. This creek offers technical challenges but can also produce very high numbers of fish.
Ponds: Elktrout has access to 18 ponds containing browns, brookies, rainbows, and cutthroats. All the ponds are within twenty minutes of the lodge. Sight fishing for large fish is a popular pursuit. The best fishing here is in May and June. The ponds are a dependable alternative in the event of run-off making other rivers and creeks unfishable.
Equipment:
The lodge runs a fly shop which carries rods, waders, boots, accessories, and flies.

The kitchen bakes a variety of breads and makes its own desserts, including ice cream, sorbet, crme brulee, and cheesecakes. The four-star cuisine is a mix of European and American styles described as contemporary cowboy cuisine, featuring local game and ingredients. Coffee, tea, sodas, and snacks are available around the clock.
Breakfast is a hot buffet. Lunch, prepared by the kitchen in the morning, is served streamside by the guides.
