Fly Fishing: The St. Joe River flows from the Bitteroot Mountains on its 140 mile journey into Lake Coeur d’Alene and is classified under Idaho’s Protected Wild and Scenic Rivers. It is a classic pocket water freestone fishery that runs crystal clear and is home to a thriving population of wild west-slope cutthroat trout that can grow over 20 inches long. Throughout the summer, there are hatches of mayflies, stone flies, and caddis flies that produce high fish counts and offer amazing action at times. Your guide will teach you different fishing techniques and how to imitate specific natural fly hatches. The St. Joe provides some of the most prolific bug hatches that create some of the most exciting dry fly fishing any where in the west. ROW Adventures will be your outfitter and Red Horse Mountain Ranch will make all the arrangements for a perfect day on the water.

Float trips are guided from our comfortable boats specially designed for fly fishing that allow you to cover many miles of river in a single day. Our guides love to fish and know were the best opportunities will be, so rest assured you will be placed in the best position possible for a fantastic catch time after time. You will experience an adventure you are sure to remember forever! If you are interested in scheduling a float trip, you must sign up one day in advance.

Drift boat fly fishing on the St Joe River is available from Memorial Weekend through the summer, depending on river flows and temperatures. Anglers should expect to leave just after breakfast and arrive just before dinner, but this is at the discretion of you and your guide. Drift boat trips occur on the lower sections of the St Joe River, where it is more of a freestone bottom. The lower river is characterized by large riffles, big pools, and tremendous pocket water fishing as you are floating down the river. Our fly fishing trips are an additional cost, but there are other fishing opportunities that are included in the all inclusive package.
Transportation: Shuttles can be arranged from the Spokane International Airport, or nearby cities.

Lodging: Our dude ranch vacation guests have always commented on feeling at home in any of our 20 private suites designed to keep our guests comfortable and cozy during their week-long vacation. Lodging options include everything from one bedroom suites to four bedroom authentic log cabins.

Plenty of western flavor, comfort, and tasteful decorations will make you truly feel like you’re home away from home. Each accommodation includes full private bathrooms with plush towels, shampoo, conditioner, hand lotion and other items to make you feel welcomed. Sit outside in the companionship of a good book on your own private deck with wonderful views of the ranch.
fter your day of adventure, you’ll retire in your private residence with rustic log furniture, down comforters, hypo-allergenic pillows, and other amenities. All of our accommodations include cozy pillow-top beds in king, queen and twin size configurations. Just relax, grab an appetizer and a glass of wine, put your feet up and let us take care of all the details.

You’ll have plenty of room to stretch out in the evenings at the main lodge, and the swimming pool is not too far away, either. Privacy can be found in your suite, but around the lodge, you’ll find wonderful conversations, a host of friendly staff, and a spectacular view from the main deck.
Kids' Program: Our all-inclusive, kid-friendly ranch lets you see the confidence in your children bloom, while your kids get to explore their wildest dreams, from swimming with fish to ringing the bell as they reach the top of our ranch’s climbing wall. Kids can learn how to kayak, shoot a bow and arrow, ride a horse, go for bike rides, or even go plinking. We’ll keep them safe so they can play to their heart’s delight. You are welcome to join in their fun or wander off to find your own adventures. Imagine watching your child’s face as they soar like a squirrel, coming as close as they can to flying; imagine commanding a horse through Idaho’s forest; or climbing, with a little help from the guides, 60 feet up the climbing wall! Watch as they fly through the air for 300 feet saying to you, “I did it!”

Children, ages 6 – 11, are welcomed to participate in the Kids’ Trail Ride, while the little “buckaroos” (ages 3-6) will enjoy horseback riding in our ranch valley. The rides are geared towards the age group involved. Little cowboy and cowgirl boots are available to borrow, but parents beware, kids usually want to keep their boots at the end of the week for souvenirs and we’ll need them for another adventure. We also require each kid to wear a horseback riding helmet which will be provided for their stay. Once each child has met their horse and is fit to their saddle we will venture off into the ranch valley or onto gently sloping hills. We even ride to a meadow where we have lunch and play games. Horseback riding inherently offers lessons in focus, assertiveness and self-awareness. Parents and kids, 12 & up, may join the Kids’ Trail Ride if space is available.
Food/Dining: In the spirit of a great Rocky Mountain Ranch, Grandma’s recipes are alive and well, but we’ve added a little flair to bring out the flavors and the freshness of the West. With guests visiting from all over the country and the world, we like to keep our menus diverse, yet simplified to please many different appetites.

The chefs will delight you with daily fresh breads, seemingly endless buffets, 7-course dining, and outdoor western ranch cooking. All of your entrees, appetizers, salads are made fresh daily. Lunches and dinners always include salad and seasonal, regional produce whenever possible, as well as breads and desserts, made fresh daily.

Our kitchen staff is dedicated to making sure that you and your children enjoy every meal during your stay. We are open to special meal requests and dietary concerns for you and your family. We encourage you to fill out the allergy and food preference portions of the Activity Form so that we can be prepared for your visit upon arrival.

Breakfast
At Red Horse Mountain, we believe that the best way to start each morning is with an energizing breakfast to get you ready for the activities of the day. Our hot breakfasts are made to order and can include anything from eggs, hash browns, bacon and sausage, to pancakes, French toast, and biscuits and gravy. For lighter breakfast options, we have a variety of cereals, yogurt, seasonal fruit, and fresh-baked muffins or breads. We also serve a variety of 100% fruit juices.

Lunches
Lunches are served buffet-style and are light meals for most; fresh salads, carved meat and fresh-baked breads for sandwiches are the usual. But for those late risers with an appetite, there’s always a hot meal from the kitchen just for good measure. And don’t worry; if you’re signed-up for an all-day adventure, your lunch was packed with care and, most likely, something special from the morning baker.

Dinners
Dinners are not where we end our day, but get ready for the next day’s adventures. Usually, dinners are served buffet-style, allowing you to choose your own portions for yourself and your children. Meals vary throughout the week, featuring BBQ, roasted chicken, fresh cut fish, and grilled meats, particularly Washington-grown beef.

One night each week, the chefs will prepare a special 7-course dinner for our adult guests, highlighting regional wines chosen specifically for the meal. Meanwhile, your children will be well provided for with a balanced kid-friendly meal, including fresh fruit and vegetables (and smore’s around the campfire!).

Snacks
In the morning, the chefs usually have a hot pot of coffee brewing around 6:00 a.m. for the early risers. You’ll always find fresh fruits, muffins, cookies, cereals, fountain drinks, and juices available in the lodge throughout the day and evening. The snack bar is well-stocked with granola bars, trail mix, yogurt, and bagels for anyone looking for a quick bite. We can promise that during your stay you won’t go hungry at Red Horse Mountain Ranch.
