Location:
Firehole Ranch is located on the shores of Hebgen Lake in West Yellowstone, Montana. The west entrance of Yellowstone Park is sixteen miles to the east and the Gallatin National Forest borders the 660 acre ranch property.
An Orvis Endorsed Fishing Lodge, and the Orvis "Lodge of the Year" in 1996, the Ranch offers guided fly fishing on several scenic and world-renowned blue-ribbon trout rivers: the Henry's Fork of the Snake River, the Gallatin, the Madison, the Yellowstone, and the Firehole, among others. Anglers will pursue three varieties of cutthroat trout, browns, rainbows, brook trout, grayling, and whitefish.
Waters:
This region of Montana contains the headwaters of world-famous rivers, tail-water fisheries, backcountry streams, and high mountain lakes. Late June sees the storied green drake hatch on the Henrys Fork. In July, the legendary giant salmon fly hatch occurs on the Madison. The diversity and intensity of insect activity on several blue-ribbon waters, guarantee guests excellent fishing during their stay.
This diversity also means that guests can choose the flavor of their angling: backcountry sight-fishing for credulous native cutthroats, horse-back riding to mountain lakes for rainbows, or spring creek dry-fly fishing: these are all nearby and will satisfy every kind of angler.
Equipment:
The Ranch maintains an Orvis fly shop with a selection of rods, waders, boots, flies and other essential gear. Anglers can also rent rods, waders, and boots. The Ranch provides pontoon boats or float tubes for stillwater fishing.
Guide Staff:
Head guide Jim Berkenfield leads a hand-picked team of guides at the top of their profession, including the only full-time female guide in Southwest Montana. Also on staff is Montana legend, George Kelly, who wrote the book on fishing the Bighorn River. Ranch guides know area waters intimately and hand-tie the flies you will use. They offer an educative and satisfying angling experience to both the novice and expert.
